When you attend for your consultation, please allow a minimum of 2 hours as you may need to undergo additional tests and scans, including biometry, visual field tests and OCT (optical coherence tomography) scans.

You will usually have anesthetic eye drops instilled to numb your eyes. This allows for the front surface of your eyes to be touched gently such as when measuring your eye pressure and when assessing your drainage angle if your eye pressure is high.

Finally, you may require dilating or constricting eye drops. These drops take up to 25 minutes to work and may affect your vision for up to 4 hours after instillation. It is therefore advisable not to drive after consultations – please either bring a driver or arrange to be collected when your appointment is completed.
