Cataract surgery with local anesthesia

by Joyce
(Berkeley, CA USA)

I had this surgery this summer & had unbearable pain! I went in quite relaxed not expecting this. It lasted as long as the surgery lasted. At the end when the doctor was putting in the lens, she asked the anestheologist to up the "juice" (IV in my arm) & I thought I would die: I could hardly breathe, my blood pressure was falling rapidly, my body was slowing down & I was hallucinating. Thankfully the anestheologist turned it off just in time & gave me oxygen. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this.
For my second surgery (other eye) I had a "block" & was so thankful for the easy feeling it gave me.
