Cataract surgery headaches

by Patricia
(San Antonio Texas)

About six months ago I had surgery in both eyes two weeks apart. After the first and second visit my vision was 20/30 and I could see very well without reading glasses. Now six months later my vision is starting to get worse reading up close I have to wear readers again. I paid $7,000 for supposedly upgraded lenses which were supposed to be the best. Now I’m starting to get mild headaches when I turn my face in one direction or the other or up and down. If I’m straight face I have no pain.
Only when I move my head. I’m starting to worry about this. God, can anybody help me?

stabbing head pains and eye movement
by: Anonymous

Right eye was done on 20/01/21, felt quite ill afterwards and suffered imbalance problems, plus vertigo. My blood pressure was extremely elevated and I had a 'funny turn', so I stopped eye drops 2 weeks early.Felt better.
I told the opthalmologist I was allergic to the antibiotic. However, he still used same antibiotic/steroid (tobradex) in left eye which was done on 5/02/21. 3 months on I am suffering with eye movement in the left eye and bad, stabbing headaches and dizziness, plus a dull ache up the back of my head and screaming tinnitus in left ear. Never had tinnitus before. Went to see my GP she said I was suffering with anxiety and neuralgia.
I am of the belief that a nerve was damaged during my surgery. I am on medication for for this, but I wish I had never had cataract surgery. Ruined my life. I have since discovered that tobramycn can cause nerve damage, although rare. Steer clear of tobradex if you are having cataract surgery.
My GP gave me amitriptylene to deaden nerve endings. I feel so cross that I have to take another medication all because my surgeon didn't listen to me. I still get the head pains and dizziness, although somewhat diminished by the medication.

Had Cataract surgery 5 months ago , Would pay $50,000 to have my old eyes back ! Living a nightmare , could see better before .. Not to mention headaches , never had headaches in my life ! Just don't do it until you really can't see ! I Can see like last Doctor said barely good enough to pass drivers test .. With glasses can see 20 20 , great when driving although I get headaches if I wear too long .. Reading FORGET that , was near sighted before and could see great up close .. All in all my quality of life has taken a major hit and I am 71 , now what ! Mel in Colorado ..

I have headaches also but really don’t know if they are caused by the surgery. I have always had them but now worse.
Especially around the eye. Keep posted please if you find a solution.

That is horrible..see your surgeon as soon as possible and if no help get a second or third opinion. I am not all that comfortable after either and it has been 4 years
