Ahmed Valve Surgery

by Hank
(Philadelphia, PA US)

I have neovascular glaucoma. In April 2019, I had an Ahmed Valve implant in my right eye. For the first few months everything was fine, then my pressure started to creep up again (was 12 day after surgery), started going up to the 20's and 30's. Doc says I need to have another tube put in. I went for a second opinion and that doctor said he doesn't see a tube at all. Wondering what happened to it? When I ask my doctor, he thinks its stuck in the iris, but isn't sure. Does anyone know of a test that can show where an implant is placed without having to go through surgery again to find out?

I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.

Yes, you can have a UBM (ultrasound biomicroscopy) scan or anterior segment OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan which can help to identify the position and location of the Ahmed valve implant tube.
